A pavement resurfacing and bridge repair project is well underway on Interstate 494 from South St. Paul to Inver Grove Heights. Additional work is scheduled to begin which will impact travel on I-494 from SSP/IGH to the east side of the Minnesota River Bridge.
Summary of Proposed Work
- I-494 bridge decks over 35E - Resurface bridge deck and replace joints
- Repair I-494 pavement between SSP/IGH and the East side of the Minnesota River bridge
- Improve drainage and construct ponds
- Replace lighting
- Add turn lane and replace signal at 494/Pilot Knob Road
Project Schedule: Construction begins July 2019 and is expected to be complete by fall 2020
Benefits: Improve traffic flow and safety and extend pavement and bridge life
Cost: $26.8 million (current total project estimate)
