Safety Camp
South St. Paul, along with the communities of Mendota Heights, and West St. Paul have been participating in the Safety Camp program since 1992. Safety Camp is held every July at Kaposia Park in South St. Paul. Over 130 children of the approximate age of 10 are invited to participate in the three-day event. Parents drop their children off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon.

Safety Stations

The children are monitored by camp counselors who lead them from station to station. At each station, the campers learn about varying aspects of everyday safety. Some of the topics include:

  • DARE
  • Stranger Danger
  • 911 Use
  • Electrical Safety
  • Fire Safety
  • Boating Safety

In between learning sessions, the campers play games or practice their safe camp songs. On the last day, the campers and their parents are treated to an outdoor barbeque. At this gathering, the campers discuss what they've learned and perform their songs for the parents.

Organizers

Safety Camp is organized by your local Parks and Recreation Department and is supported by the South St. Paul VFW Post 295. Many local businesses donate funds and/or resources to make the Safety Camp experience a memorable one. If your child would like to participate in next year's Safety Camp, or your organization would like to make a donation, please contact the local Parks and Recreation Departments in South St. Paul, West St. Paul, or Mendota Heights
