August 26, 2018 - August 27, 2018
Ninety eight years ago, South St. Paul women became the first in the nation to vote legally following ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. This month, two very special events are planned to commemorate that event and also to present the third annual Pass the Torch Award to a woman or organization involved in promoting women's voting rights. This year's event is at the Suffrage Memorial on the grounds of the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul, August 26. Then on August 27, the actual anniversary of the vote, an art illumination event will be held at Luther Memorial Church where you can come in and light a candle in memory of one of the 87 local women who voted on the morning of August 27, 1920.
