1. What's my PIN?

The standard PIN assigned is the last four digits of your telephone number as it appears in your customer account. If this PIN does not work, you can request that your PIN be sent through email. Or, you can come in to the library with additional identification, such as a driver's license, in order for us to check your record and furnish the PIN to you. You will then be free to change your PIN for security.

2. Does the library have a public fax machine?

Yes! $1.00 per page, not including a cover sheet. The library does not receive faxes.

3. How much does it cost to print?

It costs 15¢ to print in B&W and 50¢ to print in color from our photocopier. The cost is 15¢ to print in B&W from our public computers.

4. Do you have a meeting room for public use?

Yes. Our meeting room is available for non-profit use and fits 10-12 comfortably. Contact the library at 651-554-3240 to make a reservation.

5. Does the library have free wifi?

Yes. Wireless internet access is available anywhere in the building. No password is necessary.

6. How do I get a library card?

Any resident of South St. Paul or Dakota County can apply in person to the South St. Paul or any of the Dakota County Library branches. Acceptable identification with current address is necessary.

Any of the following are acceptable for address identification:
• Driver's license
• State non-driver's ID
• Checkbook
• Recently postmarked bill (either non-label or window type)
• High school ID card

There is no fee charged for obtaining your first library card.

7. How many materials can I have checked out at one time?

Adult cards - 99 items
Children's cards - 49 items
*6 DVDs per card

8. How much does it cost to get a library card?

Your first library card is free! Replacement South St. Paul cards are $1.00 and replacement Dakota County cards are $2.10.

9. Are you part of Dakota County Library?

Yes and no. We are an independent city owned library. We have our own library board and are not part of a larger system. However, we do share a catalog with Dakota County Library, which means we share materials with them through a courier service. We also share digital resources such as eBooks and online databases.

10. Will you post my flyer at the library?

Yes, as long as the flyer is for non-profit purposes. We do not post for profit advertisements. All flyers must be approved and stamped at our front desk for posting in our lobby.

11. Do you offer proctoring services?

We no longer offer proctoring services. 

12. What is available on your public internet computers?

Windows 10, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Java.
